Footlights

From the lights of show-business, to His light.

Written and performed by Linda & Greg Lewis. Copyright 1980, BMI.

It's a long way from the footlights, unto His light. Once I thought that I would be a superstar. But the lights grew dim, and soon turned into darkness.
Spending all my nights singin' in a bar.

Telling folks to have a good time while they're drinking. Never knowing how much harm I pushed their way.
'Till one day, a voice inside me said 'Start thinking. If you follow me, I'll know a better way'.

He said, 'Trust Me, and you'll sing like I intended. Not in smoke-filled bars, where you do not belong'.
Though I laughed a lot, He knew I was pretendin'. Then He taught me how to sing a brand-new song.

Now I use my voice to sing my praise to Jesus, for showing me a better way to live. And my life is not the same since I found Him.
And I'm telling you folks, 'Jesus is the way'.

(Instrumental)

(Scat Singing)

He said, 'Trust Me, and you'll sing like I intended. Not in smoke-filled bars, where you do not belong'.
Though I laughed a lot, He knew I was pretendin'. Then He taught me how to sing a brand-new song.

Now I use my voice to sing my praise to Jesus, for showing me a better way to live.
And my life is not the same since I found Him. And I'm telling you folks, 'Jesus is the way'.
